AAHP is bringing health and nutrition education to the people of Montgomery County where they are.
AAHP’s “Kickstarting Your Health” classes provide essential information about making the right lifestyle choices—such as how to shop, prepare foods, and exercise—in order to prevent and manage diseases and conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, and cancer, among others.
Kickstarting Your Health Classes are currently held at White Oak Community Recreation Center, Germantown Library, and Shoppers Foods and Pharmacy, with new locations to be added soon. Taught by experienced health professionals, including Dr. Ikenna Myers, a physician, and Robina Barlow, a nutritionist and Food for Life Instructor, Kickstarting Your Health classes draw a diverse array of residents who bond and support each other as they learn together how they can live healthier lives.
In addition to short, informal lectures and lively discussion on specific diseases and measures to prevent and manage them, classes also include cooking demos and free food tastings of delicious and healthy dishes like fruit and vegetable smoothies, salads, and vegetarian chili. FREE health screenings for blood glucose, blood pressure, BMI (body mass index) and cholesterol are also available.
