The African American Health Program (AAHP) will commemorate National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NBHAAD) 2026 with a community celebration at the Silver Spring Civic Building on Sunday, February 22, from 1:30 to 4:00 PM. Through a partnership with Montgomery Community Media, the event will offer live streaming capabilities via Facebook Live at facebook.com/aahpmoco.
Reflecting the theme “Know Your Power-We Decide,” the NBHAAD celebration will feature diverse programming designed to empower community members with knowledge and agency in their health decisions. The Charm City Choral Choir Attendees can participate in a mindful origami art activity that promotes wellness and stress reduction while fostering connections between participants of all ages.”Honoring All Voices” intergenerational panel will bring together community elders, health advocates, and younger voices to share experiences, wisdom, and perspectives on HIV prevention and sexual health. This multi-generational dialogue aims to bridge knowledge gaps, reduce stigma, and strengthen community bonds around shared health goals. The programming reflects AAHP’s comprehensive approach to addressing HIV prevention “with compassion, not judgment,” recognizing that effective health education must honor cultural values while providing accurate, actionable information that supports overall community health and wholeness.
National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, observed annually on February 7, aims to increase HIV education, testing, and treatment in Black communities, where HIV continues to have a disproportionate impact. The livestreaming partnership ensures that AAHP’s message reaches the broadest possible audience during this critical awareness period.
Community members planning to attend in person can RSVP at aahpnbhaad26.eventbrite.com. Those joining virtually can watch on AAHP’s Facebook page here.
