National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day 2026: Know Your Power. We Decide.

The African American Health Program (AAHP) invites the community to its annual National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day celebration on Sunday, February 22, 2026, from 1:30 PM to 4:00 PM at the Silver Spring Civic Building, located at 1 Veterans Plaza, Silver Spring, MD 20910. This year’s theme, “Know Your Power. We Decide,” is a call to action for individuals and families to take control of their health and well-being through education, prevention, and community solidarity.

National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NBHAAD) is observed annually to shine a light on the disproportionate impact of HIV and AIDS on Black communities across the United States. AAHP’s event provides a welcoming, stigma-free space where attendees can learn about HIV prevention strategies they can put into practice, access vital health resources, and connect with neighbors, health advocates, and community organizations working toward a healthier future for all.

The afternoon will feature a dynamic lineup of programming designed to educate, inspire, and uplift. One of the event’s centerpiece activities is an intergenerational Myth or Fact panel, bringing together voices from across age groups for an honest, open conversation about HIV awareness, prevention, and the stigma that continues to affect communities. Attendees will also enjoy a performance by an LGBTQ choir, a poetry showcase, and an origami activity station offering a creative, hands-on experience for guests of all ages. Attendees will have the opportunity to receive free, confidential HIV, Hepatitis C (HCV), and syphilis screenings on-site, along with care guidance and referrals to follow-up services.

Beyond the stage programming, the event will offer music, food, refreshments, and an array of vendors providing valuable health information and resources. Whether you are looking to get tested, learn something new, or simply spend an afternoon surrounded by community, this event has something meaningful to offer.

A Community Commitment

AAHP’s NBHAAD celebration is more than an event. It is part of a broader effort to raise awareness, break down stigma, and support the health and wellness of Black communities in Montgomery County and beyond. By coming together in this space, attendees send a powerful message: that knowledge is power, prevention is within reach, and the community’s health is everyone’s responsibility.

This event is completely free and open to the public. All are welcome to attend, learn, and be part of the movement toward health equity and empowerment.
