Women's
Health

Black women in the U.S. carry disproportionate and preventable burdens of illness and mortality across many areas of health.

Black women face elevated risks for maternal complications, breast and cervical cancer, hypertension, heart disease, diabetes, lupus, fibroids, and untreated mental health conditions—often stemming from a mix of genetics, environment, socioeconomic factors, and chronic stress linked to racism, coupled with limited access to timely, respectful, and preventive care. Implicit bias in clinical settings, gaps in early detection, and under-recognition of symptoms further deepen these disparities.

That’s why AAHP provides culturally competent education, outreach, and support to help Black women take control of their health. Through tailored programs and resources like early cancer screening navigation, maternal and reproductive health support, chronic disease management education, and mental wellness support, we empower women to make informed choices, get screened early, advocate effectively in care encounters, and build sustainable, healthier lifestyles.
