Montgomery County celebrates Active Aging Week from October 6–12, joining communities around the world to promote active, healthy, and socially connected lifestyles for older adults. Throughout the week, residents age 55 and older can choose from more than 50 free and low-cost programs across the County. Supporting physical, mental, and social well-being, these programs offer group fitness classes, arts workshops, educational sessions, and community gatherings. Each event encourages older adults to try new activities, meet neighbors, and discover local resources that improve quality of life.
Active Aging Week shows the County’s commitment to inclusion, dignity, and community support. “Montgomery County remains committed to making sure older residents have opportunities to stay connected, active, and healthy in ways that work for them,” said County Executive Marc Elrich. “I encourage all older adults to explore what the week offers, whether it’s trying something new, connecting with neighbors, or learning more about resources that can improve their quality of life.”
The week’s highlight, “Go, Grow and Get Active,” takes place on Monday, October 6 at the Nancy H. Dacek North Potomac Community Recreation Center in Rockville. From 9 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., the event offers more than 40 interactive workshops. From 11:45 a.m. to 2 p.m., the resource fair features more than 20 organizations that share services and support for older adults and caregivers. Participants also receive free health screenings, including bone density, blood pressure, and mental health checks. Residents register through ActiveMontgomery.
